Hello, and welcome to this week’s shoot-along post. I’ll be featuring one photo tutorial, photo gift idea, or photo challenge every Wednesday from now through December. Scroll to the bottom of today’s post to see more from the shoot along.
So often with our picture taking, we manage to capture the “pageant” moments, the first day of school, Halloween night, visits to Grandma, but not the every-day. Today’s challenge should fix that. It should help you capture the every-day.
Are you ready for it? Here is your challenge for the week.
Pick a time of day in your home that is particularly telling of the way your life is right now. It could be 7:16 a.m. when everyone is on their way out the door, it could be 4:47 p.m. when dinner preparations are underway, it could be 9:02 when kids are tucked into bed and talking over the day. Your challenge is to take a picture at that exact time, every day, for a week. It can be any type of picture, portrait or still life, candid or posed, anything.
Or try for a month.
Or, alternately, pick a specific time of the week, and capture it for one year. You may find yourself looking through Saturday morning soccer games in the fall, house projects in the spring, and outings in the summer.
Do you have your time picked out? If you post these online, come back and comment. We want to see.
I love doing this. Love to see what I end up with. Here are a few I tried two years back, when my kids were small and cute and sometimes liked to dress themselves.

I wonder if you’ve seen this blog…They have a feature called 52home. And it’s just a picture…exactly like you’ve been talking about. They are really darling moments of life…and not the pageant ones.

Fun! I am going to capture dinner time prep @ 4:45 for one week. Then maybe a year of Saturday’s…
xoxo Lisa
What a fun idea!
I’m going to try to shoot a photo at 5 pm…week days only…I’m not sure if I’m going to concentrate on one child…or all of them….
They are ADORABLE. I especially like your daughter in the 2nd outfit (the braids! the corduroy skirt! the stand-out tights!). :)
