I have been making a loaf of crusty artisan bread for my family every day. I hope you imagined me saying that as nonchalantly as possible. Like it’s just part of my daily routine after airing the sheets.
So I’m not airing my sheets. yet. But I am pulling out a loaf of fresh, chewy-on-the-outside, soft and steamy-in-the-middle artisan bread from my oven every evening. Do you know my secret? I’m sure one or two of you do. If you’re not among the privileged few, stick around and I will reveal all.
We’re headed out of town today to see family, and one of my favorite things to do every time we get together with the fam is make for them my newest discoveries in the kitchen. Last time it was huevos rancheros, this time I’ll make bread. And one or two other things. I’ve never blogged from the road before, but am taking my macbook along and hoping for the best.
I’m super excited, because on the way to Idaho we’re stopping by Utah, and I am finally, finally, finally getting to Tai Pan, and I don’t plan to leave the store until I’m stocked with every dish I need to host a full dinner party. Any suggestions for must-have dinner party ware? I don’t want to forget anything. Oh, and any places I should see in upper Utah and lower Idaho?
I hope your weekend is great and full of signs of spring, for those of you in the northern hemisphere, and I hope to see you soon.

Enjoy!
You can come see me! :) Can’t wait for the bread secret… and you are going to LOVE Tai Pan. My favorite store ever.
It made me happy to see you’re coming to Idaho! It’s my home and I think it’s wonderful! Enjoy your visit!
I love Idaho – cannot wait to see your great road trip photos. I just finished up my road trip to Palm Springs and it took me all week to blog about it! I’ve never even HEARD of Tai Pan – I feel left out. I’m going to go check it out right away, though I could not possibly fit another serving dish or utensil in my kitchen! Have fun!
Tai Pan rocks. Completely overwhelming your first visit and you’ll want to buy everything you see.
How low in lower Idaho?
Hi Jill! I’m headed to Boise.
Have a safe trip and ENJOY tai pan, I know you will..have lunch there or pack a lunch but plan on lots of time..See you soon..Issac told me he was sad yesterday because Danny was leaving town, sweet young friendships melt my heart.
So jealous of your trip to Tai Pan. I got to go when I visited my brother and sister-in-law in northern Utah. I got the CUTEST little glass flower salad bowls for $1 each. No suggestions for dinner parties. Just don’t rub it in too much!
If you have time you really should stop at Bruges Waffles and Frites (brugeswaffles dot com). It’s just north of Pioneer Park in SLC. These waffles are something very special. They will not disappoint.
I’m not a paid spokesperson, they are just really special!
Hi there! Could you share your recipe for the lovely bread you bake every day? Thanks.
Hey! Your trip sounds fun!! Check out Tai Pan’s website and try and find a 50% off coupon. They have them all of the time. Print a couple…one for each member of the family:) Really makes a difference as far as prices go.
Danielle, you are the best! I will totally do this. 50% off sounds good to me.
If you are coming to Utah and to Tai Pan, you are going to be right in our neighborhood! You should definitely check out the Salomon Center in Ogden – there is an indoor skydiving wind tunnel, indoor surfing, a huge rock wall, bowling and an arcade. My hubs works at the wind tunnel. :) Email me if you want more details.
Holly! this sounds amazing. Why have I never heard of this before? and how cool your hubbie must be to work at a wind tunnel!
Have a great trip! That bread looks delish! I wish I could say that I made homemade bread every day…let alone every month or so!
Oh, and BTW, I’m pretty sure I know your secret for the bread, but I won’t give it away. Thanks for the reminder to dig the recipe out again though! It is a great one! :)
You must go to Real Deals on Home Decor. An intimate, wonderful, unique version of TaiPan. http://www.realdeals.net
I would love to get the bread secret! Can’t wait!!
Alright, you’ve got to check out Rod Works, I always find tons there I want/NEED (you remember the chocolate pot justification!!). Let me know if you need directions. As for your drive on the beautiful magic valley, I’m assuming you’ve seen Shoshone Falls before? If not it’s worth a stop, I’m not sure how much water there is this year, but the canyon, TF temple is not far off of the freeway. Have a great, safe time!f
Safe travels, Amber. Have fun!
I recommend waving to my parents as you drive by Jerome! ;) They live right by the freeway on the way to Boise.
