every child needs: A HIDEAWAY

11.18.09

-7 things4As a child, little could thrill me more than a really great hideaway. A place all my own where I could play with friends or go be alone. Don’t some of these bring back that thrill?

(And speaking of a thrill, stay tuned for a most lovely interview come Monday. And don’t forget to stop by and tell me what you’re getting the little ones this year.)

IKEA mosquito neti had to add these in because they’re so inexpensive (thank you, IKEA), and could be transformed to something wonderful with just a little beautiful garland

I wish I had a tent [other than the one we take camping outdoors]. Something cute and sweet. So fun.

Oh, I love every single one. But that boat? So cool!

Hey, btw…. congrats on getting posted at the kitchn! I saw your hot chocolate sticks there. : )

Michelle,
Thanks. I about fell out of my chair when I saw that post at the kitchn. Hooray. I can’t wait to see your tooth fairy tin. It sounds sooo fun!

Deidre,
The under-stair hideout sounds fantastic. How cool.

We had a closet under our stairs growing up. Hour after hour, day after day was spent in that claustophobic space with my little sister and cousins. I loved it. When I have kids, I’ll be sure to give them a little space of their own, even if they aren’t as pretty as these options.

I want a treepee – someone tell my mum! :-) Now I wish I had some kids on my list this year but alas and alack, I do not.

Great finds!

What a great round up of forts, secret places and hide-a-aways. My smile grew bigger and bigger as I scrolled through all the photos. :) Thanks! Puts the sheets and blankets I used to drape over the corral of dining room chairs to shame!

Did Brent tell you he had an over the card table house? I made it for Christmas one year. Wonder what happened to it?
