Shoot-Along Challange: Then + Now

09.22.10

Hello, and welcome to this week’s shoot-along post. I’ll be featuring one photo tutorial, photo gift idea, or photo challenge every Wednesday from now through December. Scroll to the bottom of today’s post to see more from the shoot along.

Do you have any autumn visits that are a yearly tradition for you? Picking apples? Visiting a favorite pumpkin patch? Going to see grandma and grandpa? Well, I have a little challenge for you to do during your outing.

Then + Now Photo Scavenger Hunt

Before you go, look back for photos you’ve taken at the same place in years past. Print out a few favorites or upload them to your phone. Can you guess what comes next?

During your outing, your job is to recreate a few of the old photos. This is so much fun, and if everyone’s in on the game, you can come home with one or two great shots. Looking over the pictures afterwards makes for a pretty good bonding moment too.

Here’s one we just tried at the zoo. The second pic is one year and one family member later. (p.s., I know some photo editing software has a way of making color profiles match, but can’t remember how? If you know how, I’d love to learn!)

What a great idea! My camera is temporarily out of commission, so I can’t join in this time. But this challenge reminded me of two pictures that ended up as precious Then & Now images for us.
1) My firstborn daughter, an only child at the time, looking at her three dollies laying next to her
2) Less than three years later, that same firstborn daughter, looking at her three little sisters laying next to her.
